Welcome to the new Smarta Water website

Smarta Water has a brand-new home online! Our brand-new website has launched, and we are excited to unveil our redesigned website, built to make navigating our services easier, clearer, and more valuable for your business. Inspired by our sister company, Smarta Energy, this look may be new, but our mission remains the same: to provide businesses across the UK with Smarta, efficient, and cost-effective water management solutions.

In this post, we want to reintroduce ourselves – not because we have changed what we do, but because we have evolved how we present it. Whether you are a long-standing client or just discovering us, we invite you to take a closer look at the full range of services we offer and how we can help your business cut costs, optimise usage, and improve sustainability.

Smarta Water Timeline

2008–2009: The Beginning of Smarta

The beginning: Steve Black, a former military professional turned entrepreneur, teamed up with a security industry expert with vast experience in managing high-level operations, including those for MI5. Together, they started exploring how to merge their expertise in monitoring systems with sustainable water management.

Innovative Technology: Through a collaboration with Andy Smedley, an engineer from Northumbria Water, they developed a product designed to detect water wastage by analysing live consumption data. This led to the creation of Smarta Environment.

Testing the Technology: The team tested their new system at the Leeds Rhinos Rugby Club, where they saved the club £64,000 annually by detecting underground water leaks.

Smarta Environment: The success of their water-saving technology led to rapid expansion, with Smarta Environment reaching a £34 million turnover by 2016.

2017: The Launch of Smarta Water

A New Market: With the deregulation of the UK water market in 2017, businesses were suddenly able to choose their water suppliers. This change created the perfect opportunity for Smarta Water to step in, offering businesses the chance to reduce water costs and improve efficiency.

Introducing SUMS: Smarta Water launched the Smarta Utilities Monitoring System (SUMS), which allowed businesses to monitor their water consumption in real time. This system provided actionable insights, ensuring accurate billing and helping companies identify inefficiencies.

First Success: A commercial client using SUMS saved £18,000 annually by addressing water wastage identified by the system.

2018–2023: Growth and Leadership

Expanding SUMS: Smarta Water refined and expanded SUMS to include new features, such as real-time alerts that notify businesses of potential issues like leaks or high usage patterns.

Bannatyne Health Clubs: Smarta Water worked with Bannatyne Health Clubs to identify hidden water inefficiencies across their fitness sites. As a result, the company saved £22,000 annually on water costs.

Financial Success: By 2023, Smarta Water reached a £38 million turnover, serving clients across sectors such as hospitality, retail, and public services.

2024: Collaboration

Smarta Water and Smarta Energy Join Forces: In 2024, Smarta Water partnered with Smarta Energy, founded by Lee Jacques and Kieran Dixon, to provide clients with a fully integrated solution for managing both water and energy consumption.

The Power of Partnership: Together, they offered clients a comprehensive utility management solution, helping them cut costs and meet their sustainability goals across both water and energy.

The Green Team Challenge: As part of this collaboration, the companies launched the Green Team Challenge, encouraging businesses to adopt eco-friendly practices, with participants seeing an average 10% reduction in utility costs.

Innovative Solutions: With plans to integrate AI into their systems, both companies aimed to offer predictive maintenance, allowing businesses to solve problems before they became costly.
